Climate: Malta enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate with hot dry
summers and mild winters. The yearly average temperature is 26 degrees Celsius.
The average winter temperature is 12oC (54oF.) There are
really only two seasons in Malta: the dry summer season, and the mild winter
season. The average rainfall is 558.2 mm (22 in). Rain rarely, if ever, falls
during the summer months.
The Islands have a sunny climate with a daily average of six hours sunshine in
mid-winter to more than 12 hours in summer. Bathing in the sea is often
possible well into the winter season and the height of the beach season can
last till the end of October.
Currency: The Euro is the local national currency.
Banks usually open from 8:30 in the mornings and close at 12:30. International
bank cards are accepted and foreign currency is easily exchanged. Most retail
outlets, restaurants and hotels accept credit cards such as Visa, American
Express, Carte Blanche and Master Card. Automats and exchange bureau can be
found all over the island.
Driving License: Anyone with a Green Card Insurance or National Driving license
can get a temporary driving permit. EU citizens in possession of a driving
license can drive freely without requiring any other permits.
Public Transport: Malta's public transport system offers a cheap and
effective way of touring the Island. The main bus terminus is at Valletta just outside the city gate from where buses operate to all parts of Malta. The longest bus journey takes about fifty minutes; the average ride is between 20
and 30 minutes. Malta Buses are orange and show the route numbers on the front.
